[ns] Broadcasting a UDP ns2.34 802.11Ext

Hi,

I want to broadcast a packet using an udp agent. I found some solutions at
this maillist but
neither satisfactory.

I just want to send broadcast packet from 1 node to another 2 nodes in his
range. My idea was
change the dst ip to -1 and dst port to 0 because i saw somewhere that is
the way to broadcast.

I'm using the 802.11Ext model of MAC, the new module of the NS 2.34

Well, I made this way:

#to broadcast i used this:

In the trace file seems to be right, but i dont know if only this change of
address and port of destination
is indeed a broadcast to all neighbors.

Thus, the trace file is also not generated.

Does anyone know the solution or how to go about it?

Each distribution contains different software and has a different focus. There are so many to try... Fedora, Mandrake, Puppy, PCLinuxOS, Debian, Knoppix, and the most popular, Ubuntu Linux. I downloaded the ISO of Ubuntu Linux from the Ubuntu website / and burned it to cd (an ISO file is cd image that can be recreated using a cd burning tool such as Nero).I placed the cd in my drive and booted up my computer.

I was astounded!

Within 10 minutes my computer was running Ubuntu Linux without even having to install it! This was a "Live-CD" and it can be used without installing to hard disk - it can be run from a cd without affecting your computer at all.

All my hardware was detected and within minutes I was surfing the web using Firefox and getting my email using Evolution, chatting to friends in messenger and yahoo chat using Gaim, writing documents and opening spreadsheets in Open Office and listening to Internet Radio with RythmBox.

I was delighted with the easy to use and gorgeous looking desktop. I decided to install it straight away and since then I haven't looked back.

There is an abundance of free open source software just waiting for you to experience. The package management system - Synaptic, allows you to search repositories of software and download them. The quality of a lot of the software is incredible.

Linux is written from the ground up to be a secure operating system. This means that you won't have to worry about getting viruses, spyware or any other kind of malware. My system is as stable as a rock. Of course, there are downsides to running Linux. The main one is that there is a learning curve that can be quite steep. It is not windows so If you are trying to get something working, your windows knowledge will not help you.

You might need to troubleshoot problems using the Command Line Interface - similar to windows DOS, but many times more powerful. Fortunately, help is at hand on the incredibly friendly and helpful forums at

I have been running Ubuntu Linux now for 18 months and can't see any reason now to return to windows. Once you get past the mind set of using closed source software a whole new world opens up before you and you realise that amazing things are possible with linux.

Hi,

I am trying to use exponential traffic for a simulation, however, after
running my script a number of times, I noticed that the trace across all
simulations are the same despite the changes in some of the script
arguments.

Do I have to enable random number generation to have some variation across
my simulations?

Even if it is a somewhat late reply I followed the same steps as you in
order to trace the queue size at a node in wireless scenario, and I hope it
is useful for someone else having this issues.

The first error you report in:

You are trying to access the variable curq_ in node, which is wrong, as
curq_ is member of the class PriQueue. So, in order to access it, you should
first get the PriQueue object, and from it access the variable curq_, as in
the example:

set node0ifq [$node_(0) set ifq_(0)] # node0ifq <= node_0.ifq_(0)
then
set curq_dest [$node0ifq set curq_]

The variable curq_ is traceable because it was instantiated as a TracedInt
variable in the PriQueue.h file. For getting to know better how the trace
process is achieved, I recommend that you consult NS2 litterature which
covers this topic. I suggest "An Introduction to NS2" edited by Springer. It
has a hole chapter on it.

As you said, it is a very common problem. It appears when you create new
models for NS2. It took me a while to realize, and here comes the
explanation:

The problem comes from the line "$self cmd $args" which yields the _obj cmd
attach file where cmd is cmd command in the OTcl/Tcl Hierarchy, and args (in
our case, but there are many others) reffers to "attach name_of_file". This
cmd command has its counterpart in the C++ hierarchy.

In the file PriQueue.h and PriQueue.cc (ns/queue/priqueue.[h,cc]) there is a
method named "PriQueue::command(int argc, const char*const* argv)" it is an
inherited method which is called when "$self (the queue obj) cmd $args" is
called. There you need to define how to react to the argument "attach", like
in:

My conclusion nevertheless, is that there is no easy way with this
simulator. It is a very powerful one, but one has to go through the way of
knowing it, by searching the web, reading the NS-manual, and STUDYING the
code.
